It is my privilege and honour to take over the charge of this leading research Centre, the National Institute of Traditional Medicine (Formerly known as RMRC Belagavi) as the first full time Director. I learnt that National Institute of Traditional Medicine (Formerly known as RMRC Belagavi) had an intriguing history on its way to establish itself as one of the reputed Medical Research Institutions dealing with Traditional Medicines along with local health problems of the region over a decade through continuous struggle and hard work of the former Officer-in-Charge and Director-in-Charge and ICMR Head Quarter, New Delhi through handful of Scientists and support staff with meagre resources.

I have inherited a vibrant, youthful, functional Centre with tremendous potential to lead the national initiatives in the areas of Traditional and Integrative Medicines.

National Institute of Traditional Medicine (Formerly known as RMRC Belagavi) has already established a good network of Institutions with just 7 dedicated research scientists, research assistant and already contributed with very important leads in herbal medicines. The institute supported the State Health Authorities in the management of various local diseases. In the process, several research papers were published in Journals of repute and have generated 10 Ph.D's with considerable number of other trained personnel as its contribution towards developing human resource in the region.

As the Centre's transforms from its infancy to adolescence with 10 years of its functional existence, it need to redefine its future and a roadmap to reach its vision of becoming the National Institute of Traditional Medicine. A school of Traditional Medicine is already established with the plan of having a "Centre of Excellence" for research in Folklore Medicines. The Institute is trying to partner with stakeholders like AYUSH, DBT, DST and CSIR to generate funds vital for the development of cost-effective healthcare, to cater the national need of integrating modern medicine with traditional knowledge.

I am entrusted to shoulder the responsibility of nurturing this adolescent child to develop into a mature adult through my experience towards achieving these goals and realize the dreams of transforming National Institute of Traditional Medicine (Formerly known as RMRC Belagavi) into an institution of international standard. Our aim is to transform 'Tradition to Translation' and 'Information to Innovation and Practice'.

I do hope that ICMR Head Quarter, Ministry and all stakeholders extend their hands of cooperation to the development of this institute to become India self reliant in health care.
